Artist Perspective – Christina Quinones

It’s no surprise to anyone who knows me that I have a passion for music. I have been singing since a young age and have shared my love for singing with anyone willing to hear. I have participated in many musical productions from the time I was little to my young adult years; however, I never had the resources to record my music at a professional level. It wasn’t until I met Jeff Bresee, founder of Weathered Pages, that my opportunities with music really opened up.

Jeff and I met in church where, at the time, I was the music chorister. On occasion I would sing during the services and various church functions; his wife often accompanying me on the piano. Ironically, it wasn’t until after I made the move to San Juan, Puerto Rico that he asked me to join the Weathered Pages team and add vocals for a few songs that he and Brian co-wrote.

I originally moved to Puerto Rico back in 2011 and from time to time I would come back to Texas for vacation and holidays to visit family. It was during those visits I would get together with Jeff and Brian to work on music, which was a bit challenging at the time.

It wasn’t until 2014 that I moved back to Texas where we hit the songs we worked on for the past two years much harder than ever before. At the end of 2014 Jeff and Brian invited me to record my music for the first time at Up Down Records. At the time I was 5 months pregnant with my first child. I wasn’t sure how it would go, but there was not a chance in hell I was going to let that opportunity pass me by. So I made my way to Up Down Records, where I began professionally recording our songs.

It was the first time in my singing career to work in a professional setting. It was also at that time that I met Eric Holtz, who is not only an extremely talented artist, but was unbelievably helpful coaching me through the whole process. This was the beginning of my relationship with Up Down Records; I made my way down on multiple other occasions to refine the songs we recorded.

Along with the songs Brian and Jeff wrote, I also had the opportunity to write my own song and have it recorded there at the studio. I can honestly say, that there is no other high than hearing a song that you created and nurtured turn into a fully mastered work of art. In the Spring of 2016 I released my first EP with Weathered Pages, Between Love and Love, which included my very own original song, Release Me.

This moment was incredible for me, not only as an individual artist, but as a member of Weathered Pages. The Weathered Pages philosophy is unlike anything out there right now and without Jeff and the other members of this group, I wouldn’t have such an amazing product to share with everyone. I am so excited to continue my work with Weathered Pages and to watch other talented artists grow and do what we love the most, Make Music.
